More Cancer Growing Fast.
There was never a solid date of when I knew I had cancer. There was the warning signs in December, 2014. The colonoscopy in January, 2015 where it was clear before the biopsy results were returned. Then there was January 28, 2015 when the results were returned. So I guess that is one official day.
The second confirmation was February 10, 2015 when I had my first major surgery. Was scary to say the least. I had to stop myself from running out of the door, in the gowns they give you, and out into the street in the cold. Figured if worse came to worse, the police would pick me up and bring me in for a psych evaluation 😉
I figured I would celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the first surgery with a special trip to the proton therapy center. My back had began hurting in December. So did my chest. Turns out two big tumors popped up since the beginning of November. The pain fluctuated a bit over the time leading to today, and put me on the shelf for some days of taking photos. Was able to sneak some shooting in during January and into February, but took a knee many days due to the weather and figuring discretion is the better part of valor. With snow and ice I thought it could be risky walking around with a bad right leg and hip to go with the left leg.
So I went into NY Proton for a a CT scan and a PET Scan. I did the CT scan first. As I was getting ready for the PET Scan, the Doctor came in. Turns out that the tumor in my right hip and iliac bone grew a bit more since the last scan about 10 days ago. Also explains why the pain was ramping up.
I was concerned about making it through the two tests due to the pain. I had a lot of pain while filling out forms and just walking around. Fortunately I have gotten pretty good with timing drugs and when to take a bit extra. So though the pain was bad most of the day, it dropped enough to make it through the CT and PET scan. Both were fairly long today - the CT longer than normal. I actually dozed off a couple of times. Which works for me.
They put together all the pieces needed to keep my body immobile during treatments. Treatments starting in three weeks, though it could be stepped up if slots open up or if the PET Scan indicates more spots need to be addressed rather quickly. Until then, the steroid are kicking in and helping with the pain. So between the steroids and pain-killers, I should be okay until I get the treatment. Will not push my leg or hip too much, though I do need to keep walking to prevent deterioration/weakening of the bone. Made a mile today and hoping to sneak over to the high school to shoot some more events. Was bummed I missed some things I wanted to shoot. But will be back.
